Abstract
A sample of 684 women with breast cancer completed a questionnaire including the general selfefficacy scale at baseline the MiniMAC at 1month followup and the EORTC QLQC30 at 12month followup Multiple linear regression was used to assess associations between selfefficacy mental adjustment style and wellbeing Diseaserelated and sociodemographic factors were examined as confoundersGreater selfefficacy at baseline was associated with emotional wellbeing after 12 months β = 059 95 CI 035–082 Fighting spirit anxious preoccupation and helplessness–hopelessness partly mediated the effect of selfefficacy but selfefficacy also had a direct effect on emotional functioning β = 026 95 CI 002–051 No association was found between selfefficacy and physical and social wellbeing Significant associations were observed between selfefficacy and education and time since diagnosis and also between wellbeing and age education relapse and time since diagnosis
