Abstract
Retrospective analysis of data from studies that used the SF36 and the derived SF6D The discriminative and evaluative properties of the two measures were compared by calculating effect size ES standardized response mean SRM and relative validity RV statistics using the SF6D as the referenceData were available from seven studies and 8522 subjects At least one SF36 scale was always more sensitive than the index Crosssectional pooled results showed that physical functioning RV = 019 and ES = 013 and PCS RV = 018 and ES = 013 were generally most sensitive compared to the index RV = 016 and ES = 012 Longitudinal pooled results showed that PCS RV = 020 MCS RV = 017 general health RV = 018 and social functioning RV = 017 were generally more sensitive than the index RV = 014 based on RVs Longitudinal pooled SRMs were all very small in magnitude
