Abstract
Median followup time was 26 months IQR 168–402 Serum calcium levels decreased significantly after parathyroidectomy 232 ± 009 versus 266 ± 016 mmol/l p 001 as did PTH levels 51 ± 30 versus 278 ± 237 pmol/l p 001 Nine patients 64 had a steroidfree immunosuppression at followup Mean increase in BMD was 95 ± 80 for the spine and 95 ± 79 for the hip p 001 for both sites Patients with osteoporosis Tscore ≤ 25 or osteopenia Tscore ≤ 1 before parathyroidectomy had the biggest increase in BMD 107 ± 77 in hip BMD and of 123 ± 81 in spine BMD
