Abstract
In the treatment of asymptomatic unruptured aneurysms as well as unruptured aneurysms that are symptomatic by mass effect the risk of treatment should be balanced against the risk of rupture Any treatment of unruptured aneurysms intends to prevent future SAH and decrease or cure symptoms of mass effect In general the risk of rupture in small unruptured aneurysms is extremely low in large and giant aneurysms this risk is increasedDuring the last two decades endovascular treatment has largely replaced surgery for unruptured aneurysms Endovascular parent vessel occlusion or selective coiling with or without balloon or stent assistance has proven to effectively prevent SAH and decrease or cure symptoms of mass effect at low complication
