Abstract
Head movement during CT brain perfusion CTP acquisition can deteriorate the accuracy of CTP analysis Most CTP software packages can only correct inplane movement and are limited to small ranges The purpose of this study is to validate a novel 3D correction method for head movement during CTP acquisitionThirtyfive CTP datasets that were classified as defective due to head movement were included in this study All CTP time frames were registered with noncontrast CT data using a 3D rigid registration method Location and appearance of ischemic area in summary maps derived from original and registered CTP datasets were qualitative compared with followup noncontrast CT A quality score QS of 0 to 3 was used to express the degree of agreement Furthermore experts compared the quality of both summary maps and assigned the improvement score IS of the CTP analysis ranging from −2 much worse to 2 much betterSummary maps generated from corrected CTP significantly agreed better with appearance of infarct on followup CT with mean QS 23 versus mean QS 18 for summary maps from original CTP P = 0024 In comparison to original CTP data correction resulted in a quality improvement with average IS 08 17 worsened IS = −2 −1 20 remained unchanged IS = 0 and 63 improved IS = +1 +2This study is part of DUST Dutch Acute Stroke Trial study ClinicalTrialsgov NCT00880113 http//clinicaltrialsgov/ct2/show/NCT00880113 We would like to thank all radiologists and neurologists from all 14 participating centers in the Netherlands who support this study Prof dr YB Roos Academic Medical Center Amsterdam Dr J Bot VU University Medical Center Amsterdam Dr MC Visser VU University Medical Center Amsterdam Drs FOHW Kesselring Rijnstate Hospital Arnhem Dr J Hofmeijer Rijnstate Hospital Arnhem Dr D Duyndam OLVG Amsterdam Dr VIH Kwa OLVG Amsterdam Dr G Lycklama à Nijeholt Medical Center Haaglanden the Hague Dr J Boiten Medical Center Haaglanden the Hague Dr LEM Duijm Catharina Ziekenhuis Eindhoven Dr K Keizer Catharina Ziekenhuis Eindhoven Dr MAA van Walderveen Leiden University Medical Center Leiden Dr MJH Wermer Leiden University Medical Center Leiden Prof Dr A van der Lugt Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam Prof Dr DWJ Dippel Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam Drs CC Pleiter St Franciscus Gasthuis Rotterdam Dr SLM Bakker St Franciscus Gasthuis Rotterdam Prof Dr WJJ van Rooij St Elisabeth Hospital Tilburg Dr PLM de Kort St Elisabeth Hospital Tilburg Dr JA Vos St Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein Dr W Schonewille St Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein Dr A Meijer Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen Dr EJ van Dijk Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen Dr KE Drooghde Greeve Gelre Hospital Apeldoorn Dr HP Bienfait Gelre Hospital Apeldoorn Dr BK Velthuis University Medical Center Utrecht Utrecht and Prof Dr LJ Kappelle University Medical Center Utrecht UtrechtWe declare that all human and animal studies have been approved by the Netherlands Medical Ethics Review Committee METC and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments We declare that all patients gave informed consent prior to inclusion in this study
