The Safety of Air TravelĀ At the official inquiry into the disaster of the City of Ottawa the air liner of Imperial Airways which made a forced landing in the channel June 17 as a result of which seven lives were lost by drowning the attorney general Sir William Jowitt said the figures for air travel were satisfactory The accident that happened in December 1924 was to a singleengine aircraft but since then Imperial Airways had used only aircraft with two or more engines Between Jan 1 1925 and the date of the recent accident Imperial Airways had flown more than 3900000 miles on crosschannel routes in Europe and in the Near East and had carried about 100000 passengers without any accident involving the death of a pilot mechanic or passenger in any aircraft while engaged in a regular passengercarrying flight The cause of the accident was the failure of
