              The most commonly used toxic substances can be classed as metals halogenated hydrocarbons aromatic hydrocarbons gases dusts insecticides and radioactive materials A tabulation shows in detail how the appropriate biological tests help the physician to establish a diagnosis and to eliminate the causeThe biological laboratory in addition carries out necessary research on the acute subacute and chronic effects of exposure to unfamiliar chemicals Examples are given to illustrate the often unexpected phenomena encountered such as the influence of particle size on the toxicity of various substances
