Abstract
A total of 173 Saudi obese patients mean±SD age 345 ± 116 years 58 335 were men who underwent BIB InaMed Corporation California USA insertion were followed up clinically biochemically and endoscopically for 6–12 months The mean±SD baseline body weight excess weight and body mass index BMI were 1235 ± 396 and 689 ± 400 kg and 467 ± 141 kg/m2 respectively Associated dietary control exercise and medical treatment were used in 67 387 60 347 and 3 17 respectivelyBIBs were safely and successfully inserted in 151 ± 62 min filled with 6262 ± 417 ml methylene blue solution removed after a period of 1897 ± 683 days within 141 ± 63 min BIB was not tolerated for 6 months in 33 198 patients Body weight and BMI at 6 and 12 months postinsertion were significantly reduced to 1125 ± 357 kg and 431 ± 131 kg/m2 and 1107 ± 345 kg and 423 ± 126 kg/m2 respectively p 001 versus baseline by oneway ANOVA Furthermore the mean absolute weight loss and mean percentage excess weight reduction EWR at 6 and 12 months postBIB insertion were 135 ± 135 kg and 195 ± 218 and 14 ± 185 kg and 180 ± 258 respectively No mortality or major complications has occurred EWR of ≥25 occurred in 241 and 301 of patients at 6 and 12 months postinsertion respectively
