Abstract

The title compound 2phenylethylammonium hydrogensquarate hemihydrate was synthesized and structurally and spectroscopically characterized by a single crystal Xray diffraction and solidstate polarized IR spectroscopy of oriented colloids in a nematic host The crystal structure consists of two crystallographically independent 2phenylethylammonium cations joined in a 2D hydrogenbonded network with hydrogensquarate anions and solvent water molecules Surprisingly the crystallographically nonequivalent cations exhibit differing pseudo T and G trans configurationsBI wishes to thank the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for a Fellowship as well as the DAAD for an equipment support within the priority program “Stability Pact SouthEastern Europe” MS thanks the DAAD for a Grant within the priority program “Stability Pact SouthEastern Europe” and the DFG under the Grant number SP 255/211
