Abstract
A 35yearold Chinese man who previously enjoyed good health presented with right upper quadrant pain for 3 months Physical examination was unremarkable Ultrasound of the abdomen and subsequent CT scan showed a diffuse hepatocellular carcinoma in segment V and a smaller tumor nodule in segment VIII of the liver CT scan of the thorax did not reveal any pulmonary metastasis His serology was positive for hepatitis B surface antigen and serum αfetoprotein AFP was 113 ng/ml Indocyanine green clearance test was 28 at 15 min and 09 at 20 minIn May 1999 the patient underwent a laparoscopy to assess the resectability of the liver tumor The liver was found to be mildly cirrhotic and there were minimal ascites A 12cm pedunculated tumor was found at segment V and the gallbladder was displaced
