Abstract
Endometriosis of the colon is characterized by typical large bowel symptoms such as lower abdominal pain and hemorrhage usually situated in the sigmoid and rectosigmoid segments Sometimes obstruction of a bowel segment occurs requiring colonic resection In cases of pronounced ileus with chronic stasis requiring deep rectal anastomosis resection with anastomosis and defunctioning colostomy appears to provide the best solution for initial surgical therapy One disadvantage of this twostage approach is the slight risk of developing diversion colitis with symptoms such as blood and mucous discharge frequently accompanied by abdominal pain In this paper we report a case of intestinal endometriosis in which a twostage surgical approach led to a reactive complete luminal obstruction of the defunctioned colonic segment
