Abstract

Gabriela Fonseca Camarillo Janette FuruzawaCarballeda Braulio MartínezBenítez Rafael BarretoZúñiga Jesús K YamamotoFurusho Role of the interleukin 24 in patients with ulcerative colitis Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Volume 17 Issue 10 1 October 2011 Pages 2209–2210 https//doiorg/101002/ibd21635Interleukin 24 IL24 is a member of the IL10 family of cytokines together with IL19 IL20 IL22 IL26 IL28 and IL29 IL24 was originally identified as a tumor suppressor molecule melanoma differentiationassociated gene 7 IL24 shares amino acid homology between 20 and 30 with IL10 IL20 and IL221The human IL24 has been reported to induce the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha TNFα and IL6 in monocytes2 In vivo IL24 is predominantly expressed by skin tissue cells during inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis3 IL24 acts on colonic epithelial cells to elicit JAK1/STAT3 activation and the expression of mucins supporting its suppressive effects on mucosal inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease IBD4
