Abstract
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenator ECMO remains an highly invasive procedure affected by lifethreatening complications and limited in Italy to a few thirdlevel centers 2 3 Recently less invasive “midblood flow range” 1–2 L/min extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal ECCO2R systems have been developed 4 allowing the start of ECLS in secondlevel institutions without onsite cardiovascular surgery and superspecialized personnelWe report our first experience in the use of Novalung iLAActivve™ a venovenuos midblood flow range ECCO2R in five consecutive ARDS patients referred to the secondlevel Prato Hospital Intensive Care Unit between January and August 2015 We obtained informed consent prior to retrospective analysis inclusion details of case history reviews are listed in Tables 1
