Abstract

We isolated and characterized nine microsatellite markers for Plestiodon kishinouyei and Plestiodon marginatus which are of conservation concern with sever population decline The number of alleles and expected heterozygosity at each locus in P kishinouyei were 1–15 and 0000–0910 respectively and those in P marginatus were 1–9 and 0000–0842 respectively Crossamplification in five other congeners in East Asia confirmed that these markers are applicable to almost all of those species and widley useful for genetic analyses of the East Asian PlestiodonWe would like to thank S Yamamoto M InoueMurayama E Inoue BB Kayang T Kishida E Kawaguchi K Kato T Okamoto and A Hayano for their technical support and their kind advice T Sasai Y Kadota and T Nakano for collecting samples This research was financially supported in part by the Global COE Program A06 to Kyoto University and by the Grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number 22570094 to M Toda Collecting samples of P kishinouyei was carried out under the financial support and permission from the Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education
