Abstract
The F1 hybrids of female channel catfish × male blue catfish contain many desirable traits for commercial production But hybrid catfish cannot always be easily distinguished from channel catfish It is also difficult to identify fingerlings and fillets of blue catfish channel catfish and F1 hybrids The present research showed that a trinucleotide microsatellite in the myostatin MSTN gene had two speciesspecific alleles allowing the identification of blue catfish channel catfish and the F1 hybrids This molecular marker will be used to identify fingerlings and products among blue catfish channel catfish and F1 hybridsThis study was supported by Grants from the National Key Technology RD Program of China 2012BAD26B03 the Fund for Independent Innovation on Agriculture Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province CX122040 and CX151013 Science and Technology Support Program of Jiangsu Province BE2013445 the project of human resources and social security of Jiangsu Province 2014NY008 and the project for aquaculture in Jiangsu Province Y201425
