Abstract
Lilian Soares da Costa Hugo Sabino Ricardo Zajdenverg Soriano de Carvalho Furtado Neto Cantidio Drumond Neto Antonio Jazbik P190 The effect of accupril on circadian blood pressure patterns in hypertensive subjects with left ventricle hypertrophy American Journal of Hypertension Volume 17 Issue S1 May 2004 Page 103A https//doiorg/101016/jamjhyper200403265Antihypertensive treatment that leads to blood pressure reduction is associated to decreased cardiovascular morbimortality Among the agent that are currently available it appears that inhibitors of the reninangiotensinaldosterone system are most effective Data indicate that nondippers with left ventricular hypertrophy LVH have an additional factor for cardiovascular events and higher mortality compared with dippers In order to demonstrate whether one group of these drugs will be effective to restore the circadian blood pressure patterns in nondippers hypertensive subjects we select 18 hypertensive aged 40 to 55 years old who present LVH demonstrated by echocardiography measurements We studied two groups 10 nondipper 42±5years and 8 dippers 44±4years demonstrated by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring ABPM The distribution of age body mass index biochemical parameters and daytime systolic and diastolic blood pressure are similar between groups We demonstrated that nondippers have higher values of left ventricular mass compared with dippers p005 despite having no significant difference on daytime arterial blood pressure values p=0559 In our study both groups were submitted to Accupril® treatment in order to observe the ABPM profile We demonstrated the same significant reduction in systolic p0001 and diastolic p005 daytime blood pressure in both groups and a significant reduction in nighttime blood pressure only in nondipper group p005 The nondipper group was found to have improved their nighttime profile independent of daytime blood pressure leading the supposition that this drug coud have beneficial and additional effects on nighttime blood pressure patterns in nondippers hypertensive subjects
