Abstract
An attempt was made for the potentiostatic electrodeposition of 241Am using six different room temperature ionic liquids RTILs Effect of electrodeposition time on the of electrodeposition of 241Am pH change of the solution and the temperature change of the systems were investigated It was observed that for water immiscible RTILs the least viscous RTIL gave the best yield when mixed with isopropanol while for water miscible RTILs reverse trend was observed when mixed with water Out of all water immiscible RTILs under consideration for the present case the octylmethylpyrrolidinium bistrifluoromethylsulfonylimide C8mpyNTf2 in isopropanol was found to yield almost quantitative 996 electrodeposition of 241Am within 45 min whereas the most effective system was found to be C8mimBr with ~90 of 241Am deposited on the electrode for water miscible RTILs To the best of our knowledge this is the first approach ever been reported in the literature
