Abstract
We report on the identification and characterization of six ESTlinked simple sequence repeats ESTSSRs and chloroplast SSRs cpSSRs in endangered Cycas hainanensis The number of alleles ranged from two to eight for ESTSSRs two to three for cpSSRs Observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0042 to 0417 and 0042 to 0811 for ESTSSRs respectively Expected heterozygosities ranged from 0156 to 0457 for cpSSRs All these markers gave successful crossspecies amplification in C fairylakea These markers will allow analyses of the baseline genetic variability and population structure of C hainanensis to provide strategies for effective conservation and managementWe thank Peng Zeqiu and Jian shuguang for helping collect/identify samples This work was supported by National Basic Research Program of China 973 Program No 2007CB411600 the Knowledge Innovation Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Grant No KSCX2YWZ023 and Science Utility Project of Guangdong Province No 2005B60301001
