Abstract
A complex formation between hemin and a congruous oligonucleotide not only greatly enhances the former’s peroxidative activity but also results in a biocatalyst DNAzyme with a novel specificity Herein substrate regio enantiomeric and diastereomeric selectivities of heme the DNAzyme and the enzyme horseradish peroxidase are comparatively examinedThis work was financially supported by grant R01GM66712 from the US National Institutes of Health AMR and PAG are grateful to the Fundación Areces and Junta de Andalucia respectively of Spain for overseas postdoctoral fellowships We thank Dr Luis Alvarez de Cienfuegos for help with chemical syntheses
