Abstract
CT colonography CTC is increasingly advocated as an effective initial screening tool for colorectal cancer Nowadays policymakers are increasingly interested in costeffectiveness issues A number of studies assessing the costeffectiveness of CTC have been published to date The majority of findings indicate that CTC is probably not costeffective when colonoscopy is available but this conclusion is sensitive to a number of key parameters This review discusses the findings of these studies and considers those factors which most influence final conclusions notably intervention costs compliance rates effectiveness of colonoscopy and the assumed prevalence and natural history of diminutive advanced polypsThis work was undertaken at UCLH/UCL who received a proportion of funding from the Department of Health’s NIHR Biomedical Research Centres funding scheme The views expressed in this publication are those of the authors and not necessarily those of the Department of Health
