Abstract
Members of this genus are characterized by icosahedral particles approximately 28 nm in diameter with a positivesense singlestranded RNA genome of approximately 38–40 kb in size 8 9 The 5′ terminus of the genome is uncapped and it lacks a polyA tail at the 3′ end 8 Some of these viruses including TNVA and TNVD are transmitted easily by mechanical inoculation and by the chytrid fungus Olpidium brassicae 7 8 Isolates of TNVD contain four open reading frames ORFs while isolates of TNVA appear to contain five ORFs 8 An isolate of TNVA detected in soybean in China was found to possess only four ORFs with a 3′ untranslated region UTR consisting of 240 nucleotides 14 TNVA and TNVD are distributed worldwide and infect a wide range of host plants including monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous species
