Abstract
MgOdoped ZnO films metastable in nature are deposited by combustion flame pyrolysis as this is one of the suitable methods for fabricating such nonequilibrium films Experiments to alloy ZnO with MgO have been carried out aiming to expand the bandgap to the ultraviolet region Structural and optical studies show that Zn1−x Mg x O films with various x values x = 02 03 033 and 04 could be obtained and the bandgap of ZnO could be tuned from 326 eV to 376 eVFinancial support for this work was provided by a grant from the Aeronautical Research and Development Board and Defence Research and Development Organisation Government of India Thanks are due to Prof DD Sharma Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit Indian Institute of Science for extending us the UV facility to carry out the bandgap measurements
