Abstract
We theoretically show that a polarizationindependent optical bandstop filter operation can be performed by a twodimensional subwavelength array of symmetric crossshaped plasmonic nanoantennas The proposed filter’s optical properties can be controlled by varying the size and periodicity of the plasmonic nanoantennas So this can be used to design filters in many frequency ranges of interest In addition the filter is simply constructed as a coating with only 30nm thickness which is much thinner than the operation wavelength and thus facilitates the fabrication and further largescale optical integrationThis work was supported by the Danish Council for Independent Research the FTP project ANAP contract no 09072949 the State Key Program for Basic Research of China No 2012CB933501 and the National Natural Science Foundation of China Grant Nos 61177051 61107042 and 61205087
