Abstract
A novel thiocyanate SCN−selective PVC membrane electrode based on a zincphthalocyanine ZnPc complex as neutral carrier is described The membrane electrode containing ZnPc with 51 w/w ionophore 292 w/w PVC and 657 w/w 2nitrophenyl octyl ether oNPOE as plasticizer displayed an antiHofmeister selectivity sequence textSCN textSal textI textClO text4 textBr textCl operatornameNO 3 textNO text2 textH text2 textPO text4 textSO text4 2 and exhibited nearNernstian potential response to thiocyanate ranging from about 10×10−1 to 10×10−6 mol L−1 with a detection limit of 75×10−7 mol L−1 and a slope of 581±05 mV per decade in pH 30 phosphate buffer solution at 25 °C This preferential response is believed to be associated with the unique coordination between the central metal of the carrier and thiocyanateThis work supported by the National Nature Science Foundation of China 29705001 the National Science Foundation of Chongqing City China CSTC2004BB 4149 2005BB 4100 and High Technology Project Foundation of Southwest University XSGX 02 Beibei Chongqing China
