Abstract
It was no more than two months after the end of the Second World War when the first ideas were born to establish an Austrian Society of Microchemistry People and country suffered from the aftermath of the war from destruction and scarcity One should believe that it was not the most important concern to found a new scientific associationBut particularly at that time the chances were quite promising because the Russian occupation forces had the strong intention to set up a working civil structure and administration as fast as possible In this respect they did not want to fall behind western occupying powers In that situation the young chemist Hanns Malissa in Graz Styria took the initiative to obtain permission from the interim government of Austria and the Russian authorities to nominate a committee of proponents to prepare the foundation of the society However this was not easy because there were not many people who were unencumbered with regard to their NS
